Summary of WFP assistance: Togo is ranked 165th out of 187 countries on the 2014 UNDP Human Development Report (HDR). The rank for Togo has not improved in recent years, dropping from152 to 159 between 2007 and 2013. The population is estimated to 6,191,155 according to the 2010 census. The gross domestic product (GDP) per capita is USD 914 (HDR 2013). After thirteen years of economic decline due to political crisis and donor disengagement, the economic status of Togo has improved since 2006. The overall poverty rate decreased from 61.7 percent in 2006 to 57.8 percent in 2011 "Questionnaire Unifie des Indicateurs de Base de Bien-etre " (QUIBB 2011). The acute malnutrition rate countrywide decreased to 4.9 percent but still remains high particularly in the regions of Kara (5.3 percent) and Savannah (7.6 percent), according to the UNICEF Standardized Monitoring and Assessment of Relief and Transitions (SMART) survey of July 2012. The 2012Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) revealed a stunting prevalence rate amounting around 30 percent nationwide. Furthermore, northern Togo faced the worst floods over the past decade in 2007, 2008 and 2010.

The national net enrolment rate is 83.9 percent. In the health sector, the 2010 MICS found that 29.7percent of children under five years old nationwide are chronically malnourished. In the Savannah region, the poorest and most deprived region in Togo, this figure increases to 43 percent
