  • Cyclone Cyprien swept the western coast of Madagascar on Wednesday, leaving behind more than 1,000 victims in the city of Morombe, half-way between Morondava and Tulear.
Cyprien, the fifth cyclone this season, but only the third to be named, came with the New Year on Tuesday, after starting off the coast of Mozambique. It gathered strength and turned into a heavy tropical storm by Tuesday evening.

The eye of Cyprien hit Morombe Wednesday morning (7 am).

According to the Morombe sub-prefect's office, there are already over 1,000 victims in the region. Their houses, mostly located on the coast, were flooded after the storm which swept Morombe.
