Latvia will provide humanitarian aid for Ukraine

Riga, 23 January 2015 – The Cabinet of Ministers issued an order about humanitarian aid for Ukraine. The basis of this decision is the letter received from the European Commission Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department director–general Klaus Sorensen with the appeal to give humanitarian assistance for Ukraine.

“The aid for stabilizing of the situation in Ukraine is very important for all of the European region and Eastern Partnershipcountries. I am very pleased that considering the priority needs of Ukraine and our possibilities Latvia will send nine power generators and 4000 blankets” pointed out theMinister for the InteriorRihards Kozlovskis.

The cost of humanitarian aid and transportation is calculated worth 103 000 euro.

On Friday, January 23, the preparing of humanitarian aid for transportation took place in the State Supply Agency object in Riga, Krustpils street.

Executing the order of the Cabinet of Ministers State Fire and Rescue Service organizes the transportation of humanitarian aid and it is planned to arrive on 27 January in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine.

The assistance for Ukraine is provided through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
