LWR is supporting immediate relief aid
to 10,000 people who had to flee their homes in northern Sofala, Mozambique,
through its partner agency, the National Ecumenical Committee for Rehabilitation
Resettlement and Reintegration (CEDES).
Other support to those in temporary
shelters includes provision of clean water and improved sanitation. CEDES
provides its relief work through a network of church committees in communities
along the Zambezi River in the Zambezi Valley in northern Sofala and has
offices in Maputo, Moamba, and Sofala, Inhamhane and Niassa provinces.
Lutheran World Federation in Mozambique works in cooperation with CEDES.
To date, LWR has sent $10,000 in cash and requested material resources valued at $530,000 for a total contribution of $540,000 for emergency flood needs in Mozambique.
