SILVER SPRING, MARYLAND, USA - The Adventist Development and Relief Agency International (ADRA) is providing emergency aid to more than 1,200 hungry and now homeless flood survivors of Soledad, Colombia.
"Flooding devastated the area by wiping out farms and crops and destroying homes," states Frank Teeuwen, Bureau Chief for Disaster Preparedness and Response for ADRA International. "By responding to both large and small disasters, ADRA demonstrates care for individuals who are suffering."

Packaged in re-usable plastic bags, emergency food parcels include rice, beans, lentils, sugar, salt, oil, powdered milk, green plantains, and fresh vegetables. In addition, blankets and mattresses are being supplied.

Surrounded by rivers, Soledad is a small city located south of Barranquilla, capital of the state of Atlantico in the northern region of Colombia. Unusually heavy rains overflowed the rivers, causing flooding. In addition, the area had been saturated by the rains of Hurricane Joy.

An internationally recognized non-governmental organization, ADRA is active in more than 120 nations. ADRA was granted general consultative status by the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations in 1997.

ADRA is an independent humanitarian agency established with the specific purpose of individual and community development and disaster relief. Without regard to age, ethnicity, or political or religious association, ADRA assists more than 19 million children, women, and men annually.
