Overview

The Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) continues to be active and a threat to vulnerable communities in CAR and DRC. Since January 2014, a total of 157 LRA attacks, 22 deaths and 432 abductions have been reported. This compares at 81 per cent of total LRA attacks, 30 per cent of total deaths and 125 per cent of total abductions reported in 2013. The trend in LRA attacks remains similar in pattern since 2012, however a steady increase in number of abductions continues to be reported.

In Q3 of 2014, 38 LRA attacks and 125 abductions were reported, representing a decrease of 30 per cent and 42 per cent respectively from Q2. However the number of deaths reported increased from five in Q2 to 15. As compared to the same period in 2013, the number of LRA attacks increased by 23 per cent, while the number of abductions increased by 127 per cent. Q3, 2014 reported more deaths (15) as compared to two in Q3,2013.
