The Fiji Red Cross Society is providing much needed assistance to help the people of Naitasiri who are affected by the current drought. The assistance is through the provision of clean water to the affected areas.

The Fiji Red Cross team comprises of a Logistics Support Officer, who will also be operating the NOMAD unit and 2 Fiji Red Cross – Suva Branch volunteers.

Naitasiri falls within the Central Division of Fiji. The Fiji Red Cross team has been based at the Lomaivuna Cluster of Naitasiri since Tuesday 30th September, 2014 and will be assisting the affected areas until the 10th of October, 2014. The Lomaivuna Cluster has a population of 3426 and is 45 minutes drive from Suva.

The Society is assisting the Commissioner Central’s office by pumping clean drinking water using the NOMAD purification unit. The clean water will then be distributed by Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) and DISMAC Central to the affected areas. As of Wednesday 1st October, 2014, approximately 55,000 litres of clean water was distributed by the team.

Fiji Red Cross Society will provide ongoing updates as we receive updates from the field team.
