The incessant rains in the State of Jammu & Kashmir have led to heavy flooding; thereby impacting the lives of more than 1,75,000 people across 19 districts. The massive floods have submerged 450 villages, while 2500 villages are severely affected. The floods have swept away the houses of more than 30% of the population who lived on the river’s path.

While the rural poor are the worst affected, the urban poor and middle class families are also struggling for basic amenities such as safe drinking water, hygiene, communication and road access. With roads and bridges severely flooded and damaged, several families are still stranded on the rooftops.

The inundation of water and the sand deposits from landslides/mudslides in homes and schools will render them uninhabitable for a long time. Moreover, the onset of winter in coming months will further add to the community’s critical needs. SEEDS relief distribution will therefore include:

  1. Family Kits [Tents, set of utensils, floor mats, mosquito nets and family hygiene kits]
  2. School Kits [Tents, black board, chalks, chairs and stationery]
