The Chinese government has decided to provide emergency humanitarian aid with a total value of 30 million yuan to Ebola-stricken west African countries like Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea to help them fight against the virus. That is the Chinese government’s second emergency aid to west African countries against Ebola recently. In April, the Chinese government announced prevention and relief supplies with a value of one million yuan to each of the four countries of Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea- Bissau, which were shipped in May and have played a positive role in Ebola control and prevention in the four countries.

Recently, the Ebola virus has spread across Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, is seriously threating health and security of local people. After the outbreak of Ebola, these countries have worked quickly to relocate various forces and resources of their own and the international community, made all-out and concerted efforts to fight against the disease and reduced the loss of life to the utmost extent.

A friend in need is a friend indeed. The Chinese and African peoples have helped each other and tided over difficulties together. Whenever the Chinese people are in difficulty, the African people lend a helping hand. After the earthquake in Wenchuan of Sichuan province, Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone and Equatorial Guinea provided China with an aid of 64 million yuan in spite of their own not-rich conditions. And after the earthquake in Yushu of Qinghai province, the Republic of Congo offered one-time donation of 16 million yuan to China and also built a school for the disaster area.

At present, when Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea.are faced with great challenges and threats from the deadly disease, and when about 20,000 Chinese citizens are still working and living there, the Chinese government and people would like to do their best to help the African countires out of the plight.

The Chinese medical teams sent to the west African countries, irregardless of their own health and security, are staying in the epidemic areas to deal with the disease. In addition, the Chinese government launched emergency humanitarian aid at the quickest possible time in line with the epidemic situation and demands in west African countries and decided to continue to provide necessary supplies for Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea following the first shippment of relief supplies, mainly including personal prevention equipment and some medical equipment and products like patient monitors, medical sprays and medicines.

China has also strongly appealed to the international community to make active efforts to provide emergency aid to the infected areas, help them go through the difficulties and overcome the virtus as soon as possible. The Chinese government will actively response to the call of the United Nations and the World Health Organization (WHO), keep in touch and coordinate with the WHO and relevant countries, continue to render support within its ability in light with the epidemic development and needs of the infected countries.
