Key Events

  • Launched on 15 June in Somali region and on 21 June countrywide, the multi-agency and multi-sector belg/gu/ganna/sugum needs assessment is on-going. The assessment findings will inform the revision of the humanitarian needs and monetary requirements identified in the 2014 annual Humanitarian Requirements Document (HRD) for the July-December period.

  • With Leitchor and Kule 1 camps already at full capacity, and Kule 2 camp quickly reaching its full capacity of 30,000 people, UNHCR and the Government agreed on the immediate expansion of the two Kule camps.
    Meanwhile, UNHCR and the Government are discussing options for additional suitable camp sites.

  • The distribution of the third round of the 2014 relief food assistance started last week. The third round is currently at 44 per cent dispatched, while 140 MT of the 11,979 MT dispatched were distributed.

  • Following reports of a deteriorating humanitarian situation in Arsi zone of Oromia region, the Government’s Disaster Risk Management and Food Security Sector (DRMFSS) called an extraordinary emergency coordination meeting to facilitate an immediate response on Monday, 30 June 2014.
