Khazir transit site was established on 10 June 2014 as a temporary space for internally displaced persons (IDPs) fleeing from intensified conflict in Ninewa Governorate. In partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), World Food Programme (WFP), and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), key service providers on the site are: ACTED, as camp management and distributing food and non-food items (NFI); and Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), responsible for providing water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services. Other agencies, including the local non-government organization (NGO) Barzani Charity Foundation, have been active in the camp distributing NFIs and food. Tents, food, and some NFIs have also been provided by the government
