OMDURMAN/SILEIA (23 May.) - Security forces abducted two students of the Darfur Students Association from inside the Omdurman Islamic University on Monday, and tortured them for three continuous hours. A Darfuri student was arrested on Wednesday in West Darfur, and taken to an unknown location.

One of the kidnapped Darfuri in Omdurman, Amin Abdel Rahim Abdulah, is the secretary of the Students Association's financial affairs at the Faculty of Education. He told Radio Dabanga that about 12 elements of the security forces had kidnapped his colleague Adam Mohamed Adam, Secretary General of the association, and him while they were in the El Shigla campus of the El Fetehab District. The two were on their way to deliver a memorandum on the exemption of student fees for Darfuri students, to the office of the Chancellor of the University.

Heavy torture

“The elements blindfolded our eyes with our shirts, then brought us to a room where they beat us with electric sticks and batons in our sensitive body parts, the neck, and knees,” he explained. This along with entering solid metal into their buttocks. Rahim Abdulah added that the torture had continued for three hours without interruption. The men stole SDG240 ($41), his mobile phone, shoes, and belt.

He held the chancellor responsible for what had happened to his colleague and him and demanded the arrest of the perpetrators and bringing them to justice.

Rahim Abdulah revealed to Radio Dabanga that he fell into a coma because of the beatings, and after recovering consciousness, he found himself lying in one of the canals near the Nile. “I had blood stains in my mouth, ears, back, and shoulders. I crawled on my stomach until I arrived to one of the roads.” There, he was transported to the police station to report the incident, still on Monday. Finally he was transferred to the Omdurman Educational Hospital for treatment.

Jebel Moon security arrest student

On Wednesday, military intelligence elements arrested a secondary school student from Jebel Moon locality in West Darfur, and took him to an unknown destination. They also beat a number of people.

A witness told Radio Dabanga that the military intelligence abused a number of people and arrested Yahya Osman Abdulaziz, a student at Selea secondary school, at the market of Jebel Moon. The elements seriously wounded three people: Yahya Adam Abdulah, Saleh Ishaq Adam, and Mohamed Abdul Rahman Abdulah, who were taken to a hospital at Selea for treatment.

The witness further said that the locality commissioner has summoned 24 of the sheikhs of camp Oshro, and forced them to take an oath to join the ruling National Congress Party. He threatened to sentence them for being loyal to the armed opposition movements in case they refuse to do so. The source has revealed that the commissioner's action was rejected and condemned by the internally displaced people living in the camp.
