Factsheet on Cameroon (ECHO)

Cameroon hosts over 70 000 refugees that fled the inter-communal violence in the neighbouring Central African Republic (CAR). Relief operations pose a challenge due to the multitude of entry points along the 700 km long border, the high rate of new arrivals and the limited basic services in this part of the country.

In addition, the country is facing food insecurity in parts of the north and far north regions due to erratic rain fall, locust invasions and poor infrastructure. An estimated 6 million people are at risk of epidemics in this area.

In 2014, the European Commission allocated €2 million from its humanitarian funds to improve the screening of malnourished children and mothers as well as their treatment. A further €4 million has been mobilized to assist refugees from CAR.
