Factsheet on Chad (ECHO)
Chad continues to face a complex emergency as a result of chronic food insecurity, repeated food crises, malnutrition, natural hazards, epidemic outbreaks and displacement of populations.
The European Commission's humanitarian funding, amounting to €34.5 million in 2014, addresses urgent needs arising from the on-going food and nutrition crisis. It contributes significantly to the treatment of acutely malnourished children and the distribution of emergency food aid and cash grants to the poorest families.
Recent conflict in neighbouring countries such as the Central African Republic has triggered an influx of new arrivals, both refugees and Chadian nationals, which is putting an additional burden on already strained resources. The European Commission has allocated €5 million to cover their immediate needs.
