Kagera April.2014: As the country continue to experience heavy downpour in different regions, the village of Bulembo, Ibunga in Muleba district of Kagera region befell a victim of the thunders and hackers of the day.

A seven hour downpour accompanied by thunderstorms on March 28, 2014, from dawn to midday experienced almost countrywide left 124 families without shelter, 669 families completely with no food crops and infrastructure like schools damaged. Other losses incurred include destruction of farm crops like bananas and other crops.

When the tragedy happened, Tanzania Red Cross Society (TRCS) deployed volunteers, provided first aid, and provided tents as temporally shelters

Tanzania Red Cross Regional coordinator, Ms Robi Wambura told this site that 31 pupils of Rugongo primary school were injured when their classrooms were blown away by the wind and hit also by trees that were falling and being blown by wind.

"Besides the injured pupils some of whom were hospitlised, six classrooms were also left damaged, pupils lost their properties and assortments of school belongings also got destroyed".

She said that as downpour continues, there is danger of experiencing more effects of the rains accompanied by thunderstorm and thunderbolts and disease outbreaks. She called upon communities to be aware of side effects of the and try to avoid contamination incidences

In collaboration with regional government and other organization TRCS did needs assessment and thereafter provided five tents the government authorities provided food items.
