As at 6pm, Sunday 2 March 2014 – Update 5

WEATHER UPDATE

Tropical Cyclone Kofi was located about 320 km East – Southeast of Ono I Lau at 3am today. It is moving Southeast at about 22km/hr. away from associated active cloud and rain bands are not expected to affect the Eastern part of the group with heavy rain,Occasional rain and possible thunderstorms over Southern Lau Group. Rain expected to clear from afternoon. This will be the last special weather bulletin on heavy rain.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM OPERATION

National Command EOC continues to coordinate field distribution teams on the ground. FRCS Branch Emergency Responders have been mobilized and deployed to areas that were affected (see Annex One)

CURRENT BRANCH OPERATIONS

0900 SUVA: Two Emergency Response Teams deployed to Narokoroko, Lobau, Qauia and Calia

EOC UPDATE AND ACTIONS TAKEN

•West Branches have deactivated respective EOC’s.

•FRCS DivEOC North has now been deactivated. However asked to monitor weather situation if necessary

•ERT deployed for assessment in Navua.

•Distribution of Hygiene Kits made to Navua and nearby Suva areas– Distribution list in Annex One

OPERATIONS FOR NEXT 24 HOURS

•National FRCS Command EOC will continue to deploy two Emergency Response Teams for assessment & distribution in Rewa and Naitasiri.

•Focus is now on Distribution of Hygiene Kits

•Continue liaising with relevant agencies and the IFRC
