Madagascar:

On 25 January 2014 Hery Rajaonarimampianina was sworn in as the new President of Madagascar.
Just hours after the inauguration, at a bus stop a few hundred meters from a concert that had been organized to celebrate the inauguration, a grenade explosion killed 3 people and injured 51 people, 26 of whom have since been discharged from hospital. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack and an investigation is ongoing.

Tanzania:

Parts of central Tanzania have been declared disaster areas following floods.

Malawi:

An armyworm outbreak has reportedly destroyed more than 547 ha of crops in Malawi, affecting 6,164 households. There are also concerns about a potential locust infestation during the coming months.

As of 16 January, storms and flooding have affected 5,515 households in 17 districts, government is responding to their needs.

Namibia:

The Ministry of Health and Social Services has stated that the Kunene cholera outbreak is under control. To date 453 cases with 15 deaths have been reported. Treatment and prevention activities are ongoing.

Seychelles:

Heavy rains caused some localized flooding on La Digue island.
