In January 2014, the UN Emergency Relief Coordinator allocated US$95.5 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) to sustain emergency aid operations in some of the world’s worst, yet most neglected crises. The funding from CERF’s underfunded emergencies (UFE) window will ensure life-saving relief work continues in Chad, Colombia, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Djibouti, Haiti, Mali, Myanmar, Pakistan, Sudan, Uganda and Yemen. This is the first of two UFE rounds planned for 2014. CERF has allocated $1.17 billion in underfunded emergencies grants since the establishment of the Fund in 2006.
