  • Since fighting broke out on 15 December 2013, some 5,287 South Sudanese arrived in Ethiopia. The Government refugee agency, ARRA, and UNHCR, with support from partners, are coordinating the humanitarian assistance to the new arrivals. The UNHCR contingency plan is for 30,000 refugees, 15,000 in Gambella and 15,000 Benishangul Gumuz.

  • As of 31 December, nearly 150,000 Ethiopian migrants were repatriated from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: 92,074 men, 49,722 women and 7,972 children, including 410 unaccompanied minors. The daily arrival rate decreased over the past weeks – only 22 returnees were registered on 1 January. IOM reports a funding gap of $12.35 million to cover costs incurred during the operation.
