Summary:

  • This report includes surveillance data from 23 November to 29 November 2013.

  • Out of 365 functional Sentinel sites (SS), 363 (99.4%) have submitted reports for Week-48 of 2013.

  • Out of a total of 317,831consultations (136,792 male, 181,039 female) recorded in Week-48 of 2013, 32.2 % or 102,484 (49,267 male, 53,217 female) consultations were reported due to DEWS target diseases.

  • Main causes of consultations this week were Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) (27%) and Acute Diarrheal Diseases (ADD) (7.3%) from total clients in a continuing trend from the week before.

  • 45 (22 male, 23 female) deaths resulted from Pneumonia, Diarrheal Diseases and Meningitis/Severely Ill Children,which includes 26 deaths (15 male, 11 female) caused by Pneumonia, 7 deaths (2 male, 5 female) caused by Diarrheal Diseases and 12 deaths (5 male, 7 female) caused by Meningitis/Severely Ill Children.

  • In this reporting week, a Scabies Outbreak reported from Balkh province and a Suspected Mumps outbreak reported from Paktika province.
