Militiamen attacked a man inside his house in El Salam camp for the displaced in South Darfur on Sunday.

Sheikh Mahjoub Tabaldiya of the El Salam camp reported to Radio Dabanga that “government-backed militiamen” stormed the house of Adam Abdelrahman. They beat him severely before they robbed him of SDG120 ($21), his mobile phone and some of his belongings.

The sheikh added that the camp residents are complaining of armed militiamen roaming the camp, especially on market days, assaulting the people in the streets.

“We filed a complaint about them to the army, the police and Unamid. They all said that they cannot do anything, as those militias are authorised to carry weapons.”
