Action Against Hunger international network has swiftly reacted to the needs of the victims in Mozambique. ACF has been working in Mozambique since 1992 and has urgently dispatched an additional team of water engineers, nurses and transportation specialists to respond to the appalling conditions of the victims. Today hundreds of thousands of people are displaced, having lost their homes and their personal belongings. Most of the crops are lost and most of the public infrastructure has been destroyed (schools, water and sanitation systems, markets, roads, bridges, hospitals, health centers etc ...)
Our team has established a priority to tackle the risks of cholera epidemics, very similar to the response provided when Hurricane Mitch hit Central America.

On March 4th, an air cargo of 4 tons of hydraulic materials was flown into the country, valued at $85,000.

In the Province of Sofala, districts of Busy, Machanga and Chibabanva, our team's priority targets are some 16,000 displaced persons who will benefit from treated water distribution. Then, the reahabilitation of water systems and water pumps will allow 50,000 people to have access to safe drinking water. Hygiene kits and cooking materials will be distributed.

Once it is safe for the displaced people to go back to their villages, we plan to help them with roofing materials and to distribute seeds and farming implements. The harvest being lost, people will not have seeds for the coming planting season.

Sincerely yours

Anna Kar
