Prishtinë/Priština, 19 October 2013 – Head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo Ambassador Jean-Claude Schlumberger strongly condemned the attack on the property of Ninoslav Đerić who is a candidate for the North Mitrovica/Mitrovicë municipal assembly in the 3 November elections.

An explosive device was thrown at the balcony of Đerić’s apartment last night just past midnight. He was at home with his family at the time of the incident.

“I strongly condemn last night’s attack on the property of Mr Đerić who is a candidate for the North Mitrovica/Mitrovicë municipal assembly,” said Schlumberger.

“Just yesterday I condemned a series of similar previous incidents which undermine the security of people living in northern Kosovo and are interfering with the ongoing election process.

“This kind of attacks and any other form of intimidation of candidates have to stop at once and people who want to exercise their right to vote and be voted for must be enabled to do so freely.

“I call on everyone all to restrain themselves from acts of violence.”

Ambassador Schlumberger repeated his call on relevant institutions to investigate the incident as a matter of urgency and bring perpetrators to justice.

The OSCE Mission in Kosovo is mandated with human rights protection and promotion, democratization and public safety sector development.
