Situation overview

The overall nutrition situation in Somalia has been improving since the famine in 2011, however, the prevalence of malnutrition still remains above the World Health Organisation (WHO) emergency threshold of 15 per cent or borderline especially among internally displaced people (IDPs). According to the preliminary post Gu nutrition survey by Food Security and Nutrition Analysis Unit (FSNAU), the nutrition for IDPs in central and northern regions of Somalia has deteriorated. Sustained malnutrition levels were seen among the displaced in settlements in Bossaso,Gaalkacyo, Garowe, Dhusamaareb, Kismayo, Dhobley and Mogadishu.

Humanitarian partners are consolidating efforts to address these sustained malnutrition levels. The nutrition cluster recommends an integrated response for Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH),
Health, Food Security and Nutrition clusters.
