Highlights

  • During the month of June, 23,421 children with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) were admitted to 495 UNICEF-supported Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) sites across Northern Nigeria.

  • In preparation for large-scale flooding, UNICEF and partners continue to strengthen readiness to respond.

  • UNICEF funding requirements for Sahel response in 2013 remain US$ 5 million. HIV and Education sectors, in particular, lack funding for scaling up activities in order to reduce HIV-malnutrition linked child mortality and to increase awareness on child development.

  • Despite security challenges in some of the states in Northern Nigeria, especially following the declaration of state of Emergency in May, UNICEF and partners continue to provide lifesaving interventions to vulnerable children and women.
