I. HIGHLIGHTS/KEY PRIORITIES

  • Cumulatively, an estimated 82,100 people have been affected and 54 deaths recorded since the onset of the rains in March, according to the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS). Of these, some 63,000 people remain internally displaced.

  • On a positive note, the rains have recharged water surfaces and caused regeneration of pasture, especially in the Arid and Semi-Arid areas (ASALs).

  • The Government of Kenya and partners working on disaster are implementing the Contingency Plan developed in advance of the disaster and are thus far able to meet the needs.

  • Meteorological predictions indicate a continuation of heavy rain until mid-May when the situation is expected to transition into depressed rainfall.
