More than 24,000 households embraced in safety net program in Humbo Woreda of Wolayta Zone, South Ethiopia Peoples' State have managed to ensure food security, the woreda agriculture office said. Office Head, Mesfin Bergene said the farmers ensured food security through engaging in irrigation development, animal husbandry and fattening , among others. Mesfin said the farmers harnessed a river to develop their farmlands through irrigation. Meanwhile, 53,000 households engaged in the program have received over seven million Birr loan and engaged in different income generating activities, he said. Some farmers on their parts said that they managed to become self-supportive through engaging in the agriculture sector.
