DDPM: 9 provinces now hit by summer storm

BANGKOK, 7 March 2013 (NNT) – The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) reported that a number of provinces have been hit considerably by summer storm but stated that assistance has already been rushed to affected residents.

DDPM Director-General Chatchai Promlert revealed on Wednesday that the recent emergence of summer storm in several parts of Thailand has brought with it heavy thunderstorm and strong winds.

Nine provinces have reported significant damages, caused by the summer storm and they are Kalasin, Sakon Nakhon, Surin, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Nan, Phayao, Khon Kaen and Phetchabun.

Mr. Chatchai said 1,287 houses in these provinces have been damaged while at least two were killed and another two were injured, so far.

He added that DDPM offices in related and nearby provinces were urged to quickly extend assistance to those in need and to work with district offices and local administrative organizations in making an initial assessment of the damages before further help can be made to them.

The DDPM chief also asked those affected by summer storm to contact the nearest DDPM office or call its hotline 1784 for assistance, around the clock.
