Tropical storm-hit districts to be declared disaster zones

BANGKOK, 5 March 2013 (NNT) - Urgent assistance is provided for people affected by tropical storms in the northern region, which damaged 855 houses in Chiang Rai.

Chief of the disaster prevention and mitigation office in Chiang Rai Narong Yaso said the tropical storms had hit five districts in the province, ruining the rooftops of 855 houses and more than 100 Rai of longan orchard. Tiles had been handed out to the affected residents to repair their rooftops. Mr Narong said the office had conducted a survey on the storm damage and would submit it to Chiang Rai provincial governor before declaring the five provinces disaster zones.

317 households in Phayao Province have also been affected by the storms.
