UN Humanitarian Chief Valerie Amos will visit Brazil from 5 to 6 March 2013.
On 5 March, she will chair the Global Humanitarian Action in 2013 event at the Palácio Itamaraty in Brasilia. The high-level event aims to strengthen support for global humanitarian appeals. UN agencies and humanitarian partners are seeking US$10.4 billion to help over 57 million people in 24 of the world’s most pressing crises to cope with emergencies in 2013.

She is expected to hold a press conference at the Palácio following the Global Humanitarian Action event.

She is scheduled to meet with senior government officials, including the Minister for External Relations, Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, the Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilha, and the Minister of Defense, Celso Amorim, to discuss ways of enhancing partnership on humanitarian issues. She will also meet with representatives from the humanitarian community to discuss mutual efforts to improve the humanitarian coordination system.

Ms. Amos visited Brazil in 2012 for the first time in her role as UN Humanitarian Chief.
She applauded the country’s significant contribution to humanitarian efforts and its support for regional disaster preparedness and partnerships, especially through the Dialogue on Humanitarian Partnership, an aid policy forum co-chaired by Brazil.
