EL FASHER(4 Mar.) - Citizens from El Fasher have complained about the rising prices of consumer goods, health care services and medicine. Speaking to Radio Dabanga on Friday, a number of citizens said the living conditions in El Fasher have worsened as the prices of a kilo of lamb meat has increased to 50 Sudanese pounds (SDG), a kilo of beef to 40 SDG, while the price of a bottle of oil increased to 3 SDG. Besides, the costs of health services and medicine have also been rising, even within governmental hospitals.

Pests destroying crops

In addition, farmers from El Fasher complained of the spread of agricultural pests and expressed their fear this could destroy their winter crops if the agricultural authorities do not intervene and combat the pests as soon as possible.

Several farmers told Radio Dabanga their farms have been hit by fierce pest attacks over the past few weeks. They added that an 'unfamiliar new insect' is emerging which destroys 'everything that is green', including tobacco plants. The farmers appealed to the agricultural authorities for a prompt intervention.
