As of December 2012, 1.6 million of the 4.8 million people affected by the 2012 monsoon floods still lived in temporary shelter. Western Balochistan, southern Punjab and northern Sindh provinces are the worst affected.

As of 31 December, 758,000 people remained displaced in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to a complex emergency that has affected the region since 2008. 1.64 million Afghan refugees also require humanitarian assistance, as do many of the 1.3 million people who returned to FATA since 2009.
