  1. Solomon Islands - An magnitude 8 earthquake struck, triggering a tsunami affecting the Santa Cruz islands (Temotu Province). Initial reports say 700 HHs are affected, 3.500 people are displaced and 9 people killed. A state of emergency has been declared and the GoSL is leading the response with support from Int'l NGOs and the Red Cross.

  2. Papua New Guinea - Recent heavy rains in various parts of the country have caused extensive flooding and landslides in Morobe, Northern, Western Highlands and Jiwaka Provinces. Nearly 13,000 people have been affected. The GoPNG reports that provincial governments are able to respond to the needs and restore essential services.

Precipitation Forecast - The latest forecast predicts a slightly higher than average chance for greater than normal precipitation in across much of SE Asia and Melanesia. A higher chance of increased rainfall is predicted for the Maldives. Lower than average rainfall is predicted for most of Kiribati and Tuvalu.
