Maputo – An important milestone was reached on December 14, 2012, during the II meeting of the Food and Nutrition Security (FNS) cluster held in the amphitheater of the Mozambican Ministry of Agriculture and chaired by His Excellency the Minister of Agriculture José António Pacheco Candugua when SETSAN launched its website from now on available at www.setsan.gov.mz

The meeting was attended by 55 officials from different State institutions and organizations, including the Ministry of Public Housing, Ministry of Information and Communications, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Health, the UN, civil society, academia and development partners among which the Embassy of Finland and Denmark, the World Bank, DANIDA, AECID, European Commission, FAO, WFP, Renewed Efforts Against Child Hunger (REACH) initiative, MuGeDe, Hellen Keller, World Vision, Care International and many other.

“We intend the website to be a mechanism to consolidate democratic governance, as well as an efficient tool in providing services to citizens increasing participation and accountability at Mozambique political, economical and social development . One of our goals is to contribute to food security and nutrition, to realize the right to food for everyone” said Mrs. Marcela Libombo, SETSAN’s National Coordinator. The website is probably the first governmental virtual platform to explicitly include the right to food and present it as this institution’s mandate, and highlight its importance in SETSAN’s programmes and activities.

Ultimately, this website represents an important tool for SETSAN’s communication, information and advocacy in areas related to FNS, and it will assist Mozambique which recently assumed the Presidency of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP). The website also contains information about the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) fund and REACH. It was created and launched within the context of the implementation of the e-Government Strategy of Mozambique, which has taken place in the past years also with support from FAO through the Right to Food Team.
