Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Bui Ba Bong said at a meeting in Hanoi on November 2, that the ministry proposes that the Government supply 70 tonnes of vegetable and fruit seeds for affected localities to restore agricultural production.

The provinces that were most seriously damaged by the storm include Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Haiphong, Hai Duong, and Hung Yen. It is estimated that around 30-70 percent of rice fields and 70 percent of subsidiary crops in those areas have been ruined.

Resources are being mobilised to try to salvage the damaged crops and prepare to plant new winter crops.

Tran Xuan Dinh, Deputy Director of the Thai Binh provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said the province has been using money from its own budget to support farmers while it waits for assistance from the central budget.

Meanwhile, the Plantation Department has also urged localities to temporarily halt the planting ofearly winter crops because the water on the fields has not drained off yet.
