Highlights

• Critical humanitarian needs remain unmet in flood-affected areas in Balochistan, Punjab and Sindh provinces due to funding shortfalls. Humanitarian needs include food and livelihoods assistance, shelter support, safe drinking water, nutritional support, education and protective services to the affected people.
• With winter fast approaching, shelter items and winterization packages are urgently needed, especially for children, women and the elderly, to protect them from harsh weather conditions. Without adequate shelter the risk of acute respiratory infections and pneumonia will escalate.
• Standing water continues to hamper relief efforts in parts of Balochistan and Sindh and cause the spread of waterborne diseases. The inundated areas may remain under water for several more months, as the rate of evaporation will be low during winter. Mosquito nets are urgently needed to prevent malaria. Water, sanitation and hygiene activities need to be scaled up to curb waterborne diseases.
