This report is produced by the OCHA Mali office in collaboration with humanitarian partners and is issued by OCHA Headquarters in New York. It covers the period from 23 August to 10 September 2012. The next report will be issued on or around 25 September 2012.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Nearly 9,000 people have reportedly been made homeless because of floods in the regions of Ségou, Koulikoro, Sikasso, Kayes and Mopti. In the affected areas five people died and 2,824 houses collapsed.

  • The complex emergency in Mali has displaced 445,876 people from their homes since fighting erupted in the north early this year. Of these, 174,000 are internally displaced in Mali and 271,876 are refugees in neighbouring countries.

  • According to the SMART survey conducted in July 2011 560,000 children under 5 years are at risk of acute malnutrition this year.

  • Since 1 January, 170 cases of cholera, including 13 deaths, have been reported in the Gao and Ansongo districts of northern Mali.
