District wise Flood Situation Flood Situation in North and Middle Region of the Country:

Kurigram

Vurungamari, Rajibpur, Nageshwri, Fulbari, Sadar, Ulipur, Chilmari and Low land and 53 Char area’s unions of Roumari are flooded and water logged due to the upstream water and heavy rainfall for last few days. Water receding and all 4 rivers are flowing under the danger level. Flood situation is improving. Due to flood 52153 people took shelter into 69 shelters. The road breached previously at Golabari of Rowmari is repaired and road communication is reestablished. Total affected families- 65969, affected household-22609(Totally), 55447 (Partially). In addition, crops of 7292.47 (Totally) and 13156 hectors (Partially), 765 km kacha/paka road and 74 educational and religious institutions are damaged. 33 bridge/culverts are affected. 85 medical teams are working. District administration allocated 810 MT GR rice and 15,00,000 Taka to distribute among the affected people of Upazillas. Relief activities are ongoing.

Gaibandha

Currently flood situation is unchanged. Water level of the river Ghaghot remains steady. Water receded from other 3 rivers. Water level of Brhommoputra and Ghaghot is flowing over the danger level and the river Korotoa and Tista is flowing under the danger level. 30 unions of 5 upazilla and 1 ward of the low land of gaibandha sadar are already inundated. As a result 60778 numbers of families are affected. 2 unions of Sadullapur and 1 from the Sadar upazilla are innundated due to the breach of the WAPDA embankment at Komoron and Kismat bala villages of Kholahati union of Sadar upazilla. Due to the inundation of households 8947 people have taken shelter into the shelters and on high land/road/embankments. 2 people died for flood. 38 medical teams are formed already. 1500000 taka and 491 MT rice are sub-allocated to distribute among the affected people of these upazillas. Relief activities are ongoing. Overall situation is under observation.

Bogra

All the rivers are continuing to recede. 11 unions of Sariakandi, Dhunot and Sonatola upazila were flooded. 13 villages of Bhandarbari union and 4 villages of Goshaibari union, total 17 villages, inundated as flood control embankment of Raghunath village of Dhunot upazila was breached. Repairing of damaged embankment is going on. Water is flowing down from inundated areas.

People from low laying areas of flood affected unions who took shelter on local school, flood shelter and embankment made by Water Development Board started to going back to their homes. District administration ahs allocated 100 MT GR rice for the people of flood affected upazilas (Sariakandi – 60 MT, Dhunot – 20 MT, Shonatola – 20 MT). Overall situation is under observation and monitoring by district administration.

Jamalpur

Water level of the river Jamuna is decreased by 47 cm and flowing 59 cm above the danger level. Water is receding from the 40 unions and 3 Purashava of 7 upazillas including Deoanganj, Islampur, Sadar, Madarganj, Melandah, Sarishabari, and Bakshiganj. 215300 people of 45159 families are affected. 17100 household are affected and crops of 6275 hectors are damaged partially. People from the remote char areas took shelter on the embankment and on the road. No shelter is opened by district administration. 10 medical teams and emergency teams are formed. 133 MT rice and 1000000 Taka are allocated by district administration for instant distribution. Overall situation is under observation.

Sirajganj

The Jamuna is flowing above danger level. 234782 people of 52287 families are affected from Chars and low laying areas of 56 unions of Kajipur, Sadar, Rayganj, Ullapara, Shahjadpur, kamarkhand, Belkuchi, Chouhali, Tarash upazilas. Water is receding from low laying areas. Flood situation is improving. Affected crops 11351 hector (partial) and affected households 5880. A Seven years old boy of Barkhul union of Belkuchi upazila drowns in to water and died. 467 MT Rice and BDT 1101000 have been allocated for distribution among affected of different upazila. The situation is under observation and monitoring by district administration.

Flash Flood Situation in North-East Region of the Country:

Sylhet:

Flood situation is improving in all upazilas. The Surma and the Kushiara are continuing to recede. Now Surma River at kanaighat point is flowing above danger level. Other three points are flowing below danger level. 1532 sq. km areas of 12 upazilas are inundated. As a result 5,00,000 people of 1,00,000 families are affected in 80 unions, 1 pouroshobha and 5 wards of Sylhet city corporation. Other damages: earthen household (totally) – 2,000; earthen household (partially) – 16,768. 3 persons reported death due to flood. People are getting back to home from shelters. 69 shelters remain open where 1200 people took shelter in 13 shelters. Now people are returning home from shelter. 157 medical teams are providing health related support to flood affected people. 231 people have been affected by Diarrhea. Affected all are getting treatment. GR Rice 614.240 MT, GR Cash BDT 2027000 and House building grant BDT 56000 have been allocated by the District Administration to 12 upazilas and City Corporation. 500 MT rice and BDT 1305000 have been distributed from allocation. Relief activity is continuing.

Sunamganj

The Surma is receding and flowing below danger level. 252000 people of 23 unions of Chatak, Doarabazar and Biswambarpur upazila have been affected as water level of surma increased due to upstream torrential water. 365 households fully, 5026 households partially and 120 hector crops have been affected. Situation is improving as water receding. 26 medical teams have been formed for the health related support to flood affected people. 69 MT Rice and BDT 400000 have been allocated for the affected three upazilas. Relief operation is continuing. The situation is under observation administration.

Flash Flood and Hillslide Situation in South-East Region of the Country

Chittagong

Low laying areas have been inundated as ring embankment ruptured due to high tide and heavy rainfall. As a result 133119 people of 47404 families and 14382 households have been affected. Total death toll is now 35 and 17 injured. A total of BDT 700000 provided to the deceased family where BDT 20000 to the each family and BDT 85000 provided to the injured family where BDT 5000 to the each family. Water receded from low laying areas and Chittagong town. Overall situation is getting normal. Total 1001.500 MT GR rice and BDT 60, 00,000 GR cash have been distributed among affected persons of affected upazilas. District administration is continuing relief activity.

Cox’s Bazar

75,0750 People of 1,54,688 families under 70 unions and 2 Pouroshavas of 8 upazilas have been affected due to downpour since 23rd June and upstream water. Total 47 people (Landslide-24, Lightening-05, Wall collapse-05 and drowned to water-13) died due to landslide, wall collapse, lightening and drowned to water. A total of BDT 940000 provided to the 47 deceased family where BDT 20000 to the each family. 689 MT GR Rice and BDT 2850457 have been distributed among affected. Along with this 205 sack flatten rice, 100 molasses, 200 pcs Saree, 100 pcs lungi have been distributed among affected. 58000 affected people from 137 shelters are returned to their home. Overall situation is normal. Relief operation is continuing by the District administration.

Bandarban

Due to heavy rainfall and upstream water since 25-06-2012 low land of 7 Upazillas were inundated and 47,077 people of 12,125 families are affected. Family of 37 deceased received 20,000 each, a total of 740000 taka, and each of 433 injured received 5000 taka, a total of 2165000 taka. Rescue activity has been announced closed at 5.00 PM on 27-06-2012. People previously taken shelter have returned to their own house from the 19 shelters. Water receded from all flooded areas and situation is improved. Relief activities are ongoing by district administration. 1431500 taka and 345 MT rice is sub-allocated to distribute among the affected people. As there is no godown in Naykhangchari and road communication with Lama upazilla are breached, food grains is collected from the Ramu upazilla to distribute among the affected people.
