One year ago an EF-5 tornado struck Joplin, Mo., destroying hundreds of homes and businesses, and killing 161 people. Since then, Convoy of Hope has distributed more than 3 million pounds of food and supplies, logged nearly 20,000 volunteer hours, helped more than 12,000 families and is helping build several new homes for tornado survivors.

“We made a commitment to help Joplin recover,” says Hal Donaldson, co-founder and president of Convoy of Hope. “One year later, we’re honored and excited that we’re part of the city’s on-going recovery process.”

On the anniversary of the tornado, keys will be turned over to the homeowners of one of 12 disaster-resistant and energy-efficient houses Convoy of Hope is building.

“Our work in Joplin represents the generosity and love of thousands of our supporters and volunteers who want to see the city fully recover,” says Donaldson.
