CERF provides $12 million in rapid response funding for Pakistan

Pakistan’s north-western areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkwa Province (KP) and Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA) have experienced significant population movements over the past few years as a result of generalized violence.
In response to urgent humanitarian needs in 2012, the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) provided $11,970,485 to six United Nations agencies in Pakistan.
The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) received the largest allocation of $4.3 million to provide protection and critical assistance, including shelter and non food items, for 112,000 people in KP and FATA. The World Food Programme (WFP) received $3.6 million to support emergency food assistance for some 16,000 families or 112,000 people during in three months.
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) received CERF rapid response grants totalling $2.1 million to fund four projects which will provide critical water and sanitation services, nutrition support, health assistance and protective learning and community services for affected people.
Activities to support water quality monitoring and improvement; and primary health care for affected people were supported by grants of some $1.5 million to the World Health Organization (WHO). A grant of $350,000 was given to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to support livelihood activities. The UN Population Fund (UNFPA), received a grant of $90,000 to support activities to prevent and respond to gender-based violence.
