Highlights

  • During the peak of the crisis four weeks ago, over 60 Evacuation Centers sheltered over 4,000 evacuees from flood–affected areas in western Fiji, however, on 18 February the last evacuation center was closed and all evacuees returned to their homes.

  • There appears to be an increasing number of cases of leptospirosis, typhoid fever, and possibly dengue in the affected area with a number of recent suspected deaths due to dengue (2), leptospirosis (3) and typhoid (3).

  • Damage assessments reflect that infrastructure sustained the most damage valued at F$18.0 million, followed by agriculture F$17.0 million, Sugar F$16.3million and Education and Health Sectors over F$2.0 million.

  • Several donors have pledged support to national relief efforts including: Australia, China, European Union, France, Japan, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, Russia, Taiwan, Tuvalu, United Kingdom, UNFPA, UNICEF, United States, and WHO.
