“Impartially alleviating the suffering of people is the humanity of the Red Cross.”

2010 was a ground-breaking year for the Korean Red Cross as it greatly increased its capacity for humanitarian action. We have undertaken various activities to integrate vulnerable multicultural families and North Korean settlers into Korean society. The Korean Red Cross has also provided aid to the underprivileged and endeavored to recruit more volunteers. All this was made possible through developing diverse sources of funding.

Prompt relief activities were undertaken during times of emergency, including disasters such as those brought about by torrential rainfall and the Yeonpyeong Island artillery attack. Furthermore, the Korean Red Cross provided a stable and safe blood supply, and medical support for the marginalized.

Emergency relief assistance following the disastrous Haiti earthquake was made possible through the precious funding provided by the Korean people. The Korean Red Cross is involved in recovery and rehabilitation programs in cooperation with the Haitian Red Cross and other international partners.

Through this report I want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who has participated in our efforts to better the lives of the vulnerable.

Thanks to your help and concern, vital humanitarian achievements were made possible.

Korean society faces many challenges, which we must overcome as we have in the past. The Korean Red Cross, as a steadfast humanitarian organization, is a core body for alleviating the challenges faced by millions.
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has adopted Strategy 2020, which will be our beacon over the next decade. The Korean Red Cross is developing a strategy to appropriately address the changing social environment and diverse humanitarian challenges in Korea.

We will increase disaster management capacity and prepare for diverse natural disasters, both domestic and international. In addition we will endeavor to foster hope on the Korean peninsula and carry out the mandate of the Red Cross through effi cient communication and capacity building of humanitarian actions.
