H.E Mr. Yasuo Takase the Japanese Ambassador in the Kingdom of Tonga officially hand-over the project on Tuesday, January 10th 2012.

In March 2011 Japan's GGP committed financial assistance totaling US$106,072 (T$180,210.75) for "The project for upgrading water supply system for Ha'avakatolo village." The financial assistance enable provision of; solar and diesel water pumps, 5000gal water tank, tank stand, 1,180meter of piping system, pump house and fence. The construction was done by the Naryba Engineering Enterprises.

The new solar pumping system alleviates cost of diesel fuel required for the pumping machines, reduces pollution and lower the costs of mitigation climate changes. Ha'avakatolo's water system was installed in the 1960's, in previous years main pipes were found leaking and materials were deteriorating which disrupted water supply to the village. This new upgraded water supply assures 650 people living in Ha'avakatolo accessing to better, cleaner and healthier water supply system.

This assistance epitomizes Japan's commitment to support efforts by the People and the Government of the Kingdom of Tonga to ensure basic human needs and achieve the Millennium Development Goals. It is also hoped that this assistance will help further strengthen the friendly ties between the governments and the people of the Kingdom of Tonga and Japan.
