The following Security Council press statement was issued today by Council President U. Joy Ogwu ( Nigeria):

The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the attack on UNAMID peacekeepers in Darfur on 10 October, which resulted in the deaths of two Rwandan soldiers and one Senegalese police adviser, and left another five Rwandan soldiers and one Gambian soldier wounded or seriously wounded.

The members of the Security Council expressed their condolences to the families of the peacekeepers and police adviser killed in the attack, as well as to the Governments of Gambia, Rwanda and Senegal. They called on the Sudanese authorities to mount a full investigation immediately, and to find and bring to justice the perpetrators as soon as possible. They stressed that there must be an end to impunity for those that attack peacekeepers.

The members of the Security Council reiterated their full support for UNAMID and called on all parties in Darfur to cooperate fully with the mission.
