BEIJING, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Various kinds of disasters in China left 7,844 people dead or missing and affected a total of 430 million persons last year, according to a report issued by the Ministry of Civil Affairs on Thursday.

The disasters in 2010 also resulted in direct economic losses of 533.99 billion yuan (82.72 billion U.S. dollars), the report said.

The country witnessed multiple serious disasters, including the severe earthquake in Qinghai's Yushu and the landslide in Gansu's Zhouqu, the report said.

The central government sent 3.41 billion yuan to finance the affected people to rebuild their homes last year, according to the report.

The subsidy for every household whose house had been toppled was 10,000 yuan, and for those who live in extremely cold areas, the subsidy was 1.4 times the figure.

In Zhouqu, every household received reconstruction subsidy up to 100,000 yuan from central and local budgets, the report said.

Moreover, the report said that at present China has 102 professional contingent teams for flood relief and 17,800 forest fire fighting teams.
