- On the whole, the food security situation is adequate, despite the high price of grain compared with the purchasing power of the poorest households in both rural areas and large urban centers.

- The good progress of the agricultural indicated a favorable food security once the harvest is underway, barring any major incidents. The government's goal of producing a record 4,232,000 MT grain harvest could actually be met, which would largely cover household consumption needs.

- The desert locust situation, with locust breeding grounds sited in neighboring Mali and Niger, calls for the activation of control measures against a possible invasion.

- Despite the high price of grain, terms of trade for livestock/grain are still in favor of herders.
