(A) Highlights

(a) In Pakistan, despite the grounding of UN flights due to the cartoon protests earlier in February, WFP distributed 16,814 tons of food to 1, 047,579 beneficiaries.

(b) The humanitarian situation continues to be of great concern in Somali region and Borena zone of Oromiya region in Ethiopia, and is likely to deteriorate further with the progressing dry "Jilal" season.

(c) In Somalia, some 4,000 tons have just been distributed to 170,000 beneficiaries in Lower Juba and Gedo region and another 1,000 tons will be distributed shortly in Bay and Bakool regions.
