Wahroonga, New South Wales - The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Australia is on the ground providing emergency accommodation for Perth Hills residents forced to flee their homes amid raging fires in Western Australia.

ADRA Australia's emergency services were activated on Monday, 7th February, to assist in providing accommodation service to Perth Hills residents who had tragically and suddenly lost their homes. ADRA has also been involved in distributing emergency food supplies to those affected.

In addition, ADRA Australia has been approached by Western Australia's Emergency Services to organise further 12-18 month long-term accommodation for those who have been severely affected by the fires.

"ADRA is extremely proud of our hardworking representatives who have been on-the-ground and on-the-go since Monday," said Chris Olafson, ADRA Australia's Director of Emergency Management.

"These invaluable ADRA volunteers have been working with state government services as well as local councils to provide exactly what is needed for those who have lost everything."

"The devastation, not just by the fires but on the faces of the people that have lost everything, can be heartbreaking, but being able to help them in the time of their greatest need is a privilege," said Suzanna Cuplovic, ADRA Australia's Western Australia State Disaster Recovery Co-ordinator.

If you would like to support ADRA Australia's response to the West Australian fires, donations can be made to the Disaster Preparedness and Relief Fund, by calling 1800 242 372 or by visiting www.adra.org.au.

ADRA Australia currently holds formal agreements to provide emergency accommodation during times of disaster in New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory, Queensland and Western Australia.

ADRA Australia implements a wide range of development and emergency response programs at home and overseas. ADRA Australia works with people in poverty and distress to create just and positive change through empowering partnerships and responsible action.
