Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) partners report 8530 households or 52,895 individuals displaced into 139 Internally Displaced People (IDP) sites last week, an all-time high for new arrivals.

61% of all new arrivals (32,173 individuals) arrived in 39 Daynile IDP sites – Banadir region. Most these new arrivals originated from Lower Shabelle region, which showed a large increase in outflows over the past month.

Concerted frontline response efforts scaled up; among those newly displaced in the past week, 60% received frontline humanitarian assistance. Of the frontline assistance received, 8% received shelter materials, 7% received general food distributions and 7% received Non Food Items (NFI) and 6% receiving hygiene items.

More than 805,000 individuals have been displaced due to the drought, one of the highest levels of internal displacement globally. Women and children constitute 82% of those displaced. In over 2,400 informal IDP sites, access to safe water is often compromised, with diseases and malnutrition spreading. IDPs face discrimination, exclusion from services and are highly vulnerable to protection concerns.
