Supply Chain has been the backbone of WFP’s operations for over six decades positioning WFP uniquely to support humanitarian and development actors with supply chain services across sectors. WFP is leveraging its supply chain expertise to help make public health supply chains more resilient and capable of responding to future public health shocks. The Health Supply Chain Systems Strengthening (HS3) team within WFP’s Supply Chain Division has been partnering with local governments and health actors to help improve the availability of medicines and health commodities in vulnerable communities. Building on the experience gained, a new 5-year project funded by Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited is now sharing tools, methodologies and best practices from WFP’s experience in food supply chain with ministries of health and central medical stores in several African countries, including Malawi.
